Jeff Parker 1985-86 Away Green #11. Jersey was worn in the 1986 National Championship game.
This jersey was an unknown game worn MSU jersey until December of 2007. Research at Michigan State has shown
this jersey to be the jersey worn by Jeff Parker during the 1986 National Championship game versus Harvard. In
this game, MSU found themselves down 3-1 early in the second period and going on the penalty kill. During
the Harvard power play, MSU took the puck down the ice for a 2 on 1 short hand opportunity. With Parker
charging down the right side with a Harvard player directly behind him, Parker took a perfect pass from Kevin Miller
to score a short-handed goal to cut the Crimson lead to 3-2. Immediately after the goal, Harvard's #3
laid a violent cross-check on the rear hip of Parker, breaking his stick in the process. (No penalty was
called.) Note the perfect red stick mark on the back right in the photo. Nameplates were not
worn in this game OR on any away MSU jersey during the season. Jeff Parker was a tough
winger for MSU scoring 33 goals and 45 assists in his career. Went on to the NHL playing a few years for
the Buffalo Sabres and Hartford Whalers.
A special thanks to Dave Ellis for the video
assistance and hockey knowledge that helped identify this piece of Spartan hockey history!!!
